Changeless of Research
The earth is full of things in motion
and constantly changing to adapt to everything that is happening. We find out
that life exists in places that we may never have thought possible, but it is
there. We study things and try to understand what this world is and how it
changes but we can miss so much just in the blink of an eye. We are always just
trying to understand it, but some may say that is foolish to try to understand
something that will be different in just a few minutes or days, maybe even
years. We do this so we can try to understand that change so that we can
understand this blink of an eye that I may never be forgotten. That is what researchers
are trying to do, gather information on the here and now so that we may guide
the future and leave something for them to see about their past. Because of
that, we must be careful with what we decide is the findings of our research. We
can easily let emotions get in the way, and we can find information that supports
our opinions, so we hold it as truth, or even just not do the right type of research
to show what we wanted to know.
Our emotions play a significant
role in guiding our decision-making and daily life. However, when conducting
research, it is essential to exercise caution and not let our emotions fully control
our reasoning or seeing ability to accept the truth. While emotions can help us
identify situations or problems in our lives, they can also cloud our judgment
and lead to unwise decisions. Our emotions are complex and ever-changing,
making them challenging to control. At the same time, they can aid research by
allowing us to identify potential research topics that we wonder about.
Nevertheless, it is crucial to exercise balance and avoid allowing emotions to cloud
our research. Researchers must strive to maintain objectivity, even if the data
challenge their initial assumptions or personal beliefs. By doing so,
researchers can ensure that their work is acutely documented and kept in a way
to be beneficial and not negative like this “50 percent of all marriages
end in divorce”. This percentage came from
some research but as was put by RenĂ©e Peltz Dennison Ph.D. in her article “Do
Half of All Marriages Really End in Divorce?” it was found that “The truth is, the
average couple getting married today has more like a 75 percent chance
of staying married. That means that only about 1 in 4 recent
marriages are likely to end in divorce.” This has become commonplace in households
to avoid having to talk about relationships. If things are going to fail, why
put in the effort that is the effect of letting emotions guide research.
It is human nature to cling to
information that supports our preconceived notions, even if the source may be
unreliable or outdated. As aptly stated by Mr. Williams in a “discussion on
scientific methodology”, most of us arrive at our beliefs without giving much
thought to the underlying methodology or consistency with our values. It is
crucial to avoid seeking only information that aligns with our beliefs and to
remain open to all sides of an argument, even if it challenges our assumptions.
By maintaining an open mind and being willing to consider diverse perspectives,
we create opportunities for personal growth and expanded knowledge. It is
essential to resist the urge to focus solely on being right and instead
prioritize seeking the truth. The willingness to explore different viewpoints
and learn from them not only enriches our understanding but also increases our
credibility and persuasiveness in discussions with others. Therefore, it is
crucial to remain open to all points of view, even if they may challenge our
current beliefs, as this can lead to a more comprehensive understanding of the topics,
we thought we knew everything about.
